The difference between the mass back
upgrade and the standard poly backed carpet is
the
addition
of sound deadening backing material called "mass
backing".
Mass backing material, which is approximately 40 mil thick, is heat bonded to the
back of the standard poly backed carpet.
It's purpose is for additional sound deadening and heat shield. It
also makes the carpet's overall weight heavier
due to the
addition of the backing material. It is an upgrade the we highly
recommend on any molded carpet and is our best selling upgrade.
It also
aids in carpet installation. Each style carpet, whether you order the standard poly backed or the mass backing upgrade option, will wear as long as your factory original factory carpet did. The carpet pile is approximately 1/4" deep and is identical between the two products. Included in each set is heavy 40 ounce jute padding for the floor pan areas. After installation, you cannot tell by looking whether you have the standard poly backed carpet or the mass backing upgrade option on your carpet, however, the mass backing upgrade adds sound deadening and heat shielding properties that are not available with the standard poly backing. If you are looking for additional sound deadener for your vehicle, then the mass backing upgrade is the product that you have been looking for. It saves time--you don't have to lay down sound deadener...then install your carpet, you can do it in one step. Mass backing is a product that we highly recommend, however, the standard poly backed carpet wears equally as long and is the identical carpet without the extra sound deadener! Some late model vehicles (1990-present model year) have mass backing issued standard from the factory and we recommend that if your vehicle has the mass backing, that you replace it with our mass backing upgrade. You should look on the back of your original carpet to determine if you do have the mass backing on your vehicle now. If you do, it is highly recommended that you replace the carpet with the mass backing upgrade. The mass backing upgrade is available at an additional cost, but does not take any longer to ship. Most carpets ship in 24-48 hours after your order is received. The majority of our customer's have their products in their hands in 7 days or less, of course, that is dependent upon where you are located in the US.
Mass backing will be applied to molded carpet and any piece in your
carpet set that is made in a mold. Mass backing cannot be applied
to any die cut pieces (pieces that don't have molding such as a flat
cargo area floor carpet or flat side panels, if the set you are ordering
comes with these items) or "cut & sewn" style carpeting since mass
backing is applied during the heat process. |
